Product Testing: QHP Bareback Pad

We asked our Facebook followers to apply to be a product tester to put the QHP Bareback Pad through it's paces. We'd lots of great entries and chose Gracie and Gizmo to put the pad to the test.

Here's Gracie's review of the product.

Exciting delivery…

I jumped at the opportunity to test this product and took it along to try out on my ride with Gizmo the cheeky Welsh pony who belongs to my instructor, Amy! The QHP pad is smart in appearance and looks good quality with its soft super padded sheepskin inner. We got the pad in black which suited Gizmo who is liver chestnut, amazingly.

Tacking up…

Soon we realised we didn’t have the right sized girth for the pad. We finally found a girth to fit so would recommend a short dressage girth handy when using the pad. Once we put the pad on and was ready to go, we had some trick time. Mr Gizmo was able to move, stretch, fist pump and bow in the pad. The pad was stretchy, very flexible and easily moved to Gizmo’s movements. When I mounted Gizmo was happy and seemed very comfortable and I felt secure as it flexed to Gizmo’s back shape.

Heading out…

We headed out into the woods and the pad was extremely comfy. Further into our hack we had a trot and when I felt unbalanced, the trusty handle which was easy to grab helped me to stabilize myself after a little slip. When picking up the pace and going faster it didn’t slip and the girth was easy to grab to do it up if the pad were to slip.

The perfect fit…

Although Gizmo is only 13.3hh the pad sat quite short on his back and he might be better suited to the next size up from pony. We were hoping to win this fantastic prize for my own pony Amber (the 13.2hh mini cob) who will shortly be coming steadily back into work after having a lovely foal. The pad will be perfect for her instead of her saddle while building back up her strength and muscles.

In summary…

After our ride we were impressed by how little hair was on the sheepskin and even though it was a warm day, how little Gizmo had sweat. We would definitely recommend this product to fellow horse riders and thanks to Old Mill Saddlery for letting us test the QHP bareback pad.
