What does a bitless bridle entail?
Blog
Bitless bridles are becoming increasingly popular. There are various reasons for riding with a bitless bridle. Some horses cannot be ridden with a bit due to medical reasons, while others, after trying it out, express a preference for the comfort of a bitless bridle. Additionally, some riders consciously choose to ride their horses without a bit, finding it more pleasant and kinder for their four-legged friend. If you are considering bitless riding or want to explore if it suits you and your horse, QHP offers a range of suitable bridles to try out.
There are various types of bitless bridles, with the sidepull being one of the most well-known. In this type of bridle, pressure from the reins is primarily on the nose, as the reins are attached to the sides of the horse's nose. If you are considering riding with a sidepull, the QHP bitless bridle Anatomical is a suitable choice. This bridle is anatomically shaped, minimising pressure on the nerves and sensitive points of the horse's head. Therefore, it is ideal for horses that are sensitive in the head. Additionally, the noseband is specially shaped to be higher on the nose, avoiding pressure on the horse's molars.
Apart from the sidepull, there are also the crossed styles - the chin crossed and jaw crossed variants - which exert more influence on the horse than the sidepull. As the names suggest, the chin crossed bridle puts pressure on the nose and cheeks, while the jaw crossed bridle exerts pressure on the nose and jaw of the horse. It is important to note that the 'kindness' of a bridle depends, among other things, on the rein pressure applied.
If you are not sure which bitless bridle suits you best, the QHP Sunna and QHP Ceto bridles are good options. These bridles are multifunctional, meaning you can use them in three different ways: as a sidepull, chin crossed, and jaw crossed bridle. Handy for trying out which variant is most suitable for you and your horse. If you like some extra bling, the Sunna bitless bridle is recommended!
