How To Strengthen The Bond With Your Horse

That ultimate trust between you and your horse, that's something we all want. But how do you achieve that? Working on your relationship and horsemanship can be done both riding and from the ground. Of course there are several essentials that will help you with this. In this blog we highlight 5 QHP items that you can use. Read on quickly, complete your tack room with these handy supplies and start practicing!

While riding

As a little girl, did you dream of bareback riding at sunset with the wind blowing through your hair? Not surprising, because riding without a saddle can give you that ultimate feeling of freedom. To add that extra bit of comfort for yourself and your horse, you can use the QHP bareback pad. This pad is gentle on your horse and gives you grip to prevent slipping. The handle on the front is extra handy, which you can grab when you lose your balance. At the same time riding with a bareback pad improves your independent sitting. Win-win!

Want to take it one step further? The QHP Liberty Combi Rope Halter can be used for bitless riding as well as for natural horsemanship. The colourful set consists of a halter, detachable reins and a neckrope. A complete set to get you started!

Natural horsemanship

Good leadership is the basis for a stable relationship with your horse. Leadership therefore starts on the ground. To achieve this, you can do all kinds of exercises, also called groundwork. What you need:

  • a rope halter (from the liberty set)
  • a treat bag (if you want to reward your horse with food);
  • and one or two lead ropes (so you can lunge with double long lines or train your horse from driving position).

Groundwork will help you in the daily interaction with your horse. You will understand each other better, you will learn to read your horse and you can easily teach him things, such as standing still or walking backwards. Definitely worth investing time into this. Bet your horse also likes it?

Lunging

You have probably already included lunging your horse in your training schedule. And that's a good thing! You don't just give your horse exercise; you can also use this to train him on voice commands and to observe him in motion from the ground.

An essential for lunging is the cavesson: a multifunctional bridle that can be used in many different ways. Not only for lunging, but also for groundwork and riding. You can even choose to attach a bit and side reins, but of course you don't have to.

The ring on the noseband allows you to train your horse perfectly without disturbing him in the mouth. This way you don't run the risk of pulling the bit through the mouth. Of course you do not have that risk when you lunge with a halter, but that is not recommended. A halter does not fit nicely on the head of your horse and it can slide back and forth. The soft leather cavesson from QHP is therefore extremely suitable to use when you lunge your horse.

We gave you a few tips and tricks for strengthening the bond with your horse. What gives you the ultimate sign of trust between you and your and horse?
